GEARS Presentation Winners: Summer 2021

From visualizing the universe to examining higher education organizations, scores of international students participated in a wide range of research topics this summer with faculty mentors in GTI’s virtual Global Education, Academics and Research Skills (GEARS) program. The GTI matched 163 students with professors from various North Carolina universities. The students come from 45 different international and domestic partner universities. They are paired with faculty and research labs to complete a 6-week intensive research project that relates to their field of study. Besides acquiring valuable research skills, GEARS students also receive coaching and attend workshops about research methodology, scientific communication and tips for pursuing graduate studies in the United States. The program culminates with students creating an academic research poster for a virtual presentation of their work.
