Welcome to NC State and Raleigh

NC State hosts SKEMA Business School’s U.S. location on our Centennial Campus. SKEMA is one of the top business schools in France with additional satellite campuses in Brazil, China and South Africa. The Raleigh campus has grown to more than 500 students a year, making it the largest concentration of French students in the U.S. The GTI helps orient, connect, and integrate the SKEMA students into the NC State and surrounding communities.

NC State Application Process

SKEMA students who are selected by their school to attend the Raleigh campus must complete an NC State application to receive access to NC State services and facilities.

  • Apply through the Global Engagement Application Center with the Global Training SKEMA application.
  • You will need to “Create an account” with your email address and set up a password to access the application system and start the process.
    • NOTE: The account you create will ONLY work for with application system. It is NOT the same as your Unity ID and password, which will be issued to you once your application has been processed.
    • This application will ask for personal data and the Global Training Initiative has taken additional steps to ensure the data collection complies with new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards. If you are or will be a resident of an EU Member State, please review the following data privacy notice.
  • Complete the Campus Safety and Security questions.
  • Verify your compliance with Campus Community Standards by digitally signing and submitting your application.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once your application has been submitted.
  • Your application will be processed in 3-5 business days.
  • Once the application has been approved and processed, NC State will email your Unity ID, Campus ID number, and initial default password information.
    • Unity ID: 8 or fewer characters, so John Smith may be jsmith3@ncsu.edu
    • Campus ID: 9 numerals (no letters), ex. 200123456
    • Default Password: last 4 digits of Campus ID + birth month and day (July 4 = 0704)
    • If you initial default password does not appear to work, try to switch the birth month and day.
  • First, students are required to set up three security questions at https://www.ncsu.edu/uia
  • Second, when you’ve completed the security questions, visit https://www.ncsu.edu/password to change your password.
    • Once your password has been changed, please allow up to an hour for your password to be updated over all of our systems (typically Unity services such as MyPack Portal take less than 5 minutes, and Google services take less than 15 minutes).
  • Log into MyPack Portal with your Unity ID and initial default password to access your personal information and apply for campus housing.
  • If you’ve forgotten your password after changing it or are having other issues, contact the Help Desk via email (help@ncsu.edu) or other methods.

Students receive the following information in a welcome email after their application is processed and approved:

  • Campus ID: the nine-digit numeral shown on the Wolfpack One Card (ex. 200123456)
    • Wolfpack One ID Card: used to access a variety of services on campus. Always carry it with you! You can get your ID card at the Wolfpack One office in the Talley Student Union (Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) You MUST bring your passport. There is a $20 fee for replacement cards.
  • Unity ID: six characters long, comprised of initials from your name and may also contain numbers (ex. jsmith3).
  • Default Temporary Password: last 4 digits of Campus ID + birth month and day (ex. July 4 = 0704). Once you receive your default information, you are ONLY able to set up your security questions and change your password.
  • Forgotten Passwords: If you forget your password, you can reset it to the default if you have already set up your security questions. Otherwise, you’ll need to contact the Help Desk at help@ncsu.edu.
  • Once you have been admitted to NC State, you may receive a notification about charges to your student account.
  • If you have applied for NC State housing, you are responsible for paying those housing costs.
  • You MUST cancel your campus housing reservation and pay the appropriate cancellation fees if you no longer intend to live on campus.
  • NC State student fees are paid by SKEMA Raleigh. You will receive a notification that a charge was posted to your student account, but they will be paid by SKEMA once the semester begins.
  • You will be automatically enrolled in the GTI 405 course. This is the ONLY NC State course you will be registered for, or you will be billed separately for “out-of-state” tuition and fees (usually starting around $3,500 for one course).

Key Reminders

Students who are new to the Raleigh campus will need to submit a copy of their medical history and immunization records. Campus Health’s website has more information on this process. Do not email any of these records to the GTI or SKEMA.

  • Name and Date of Birth must be on every single page of all documents submitted (Immunization documents, health/vaccine/baby book, labs, etc). Dates should be in the U.S. American MM/DD/YYYY format where possible.
  • Records do NOT have to be transcribed onto the NC State Immunization Form.  Campus Health prefers the health/baby book/original documents because there are a lot of transcription errors.
    • Dates on the original documents may be written in the DD/MM/YYYY format.
    •  Information transcribed onto the NC State immunization form be written in MM/DD/YYYY format.  At the very least, all the dates on the form need to be in the same format.
  • All students must complete their Health History form, the Tuberculosis Questionnaire, and submit copies of their immunization records online via HealthyPack Portal. If you have a carnet de santé (health booklet with your vaccine records), you can upload that.
  • Consolidate all of your vaccine information into one document instead of uploading multiple documents.
  • Students who do not complete their health records requirements by the due date will lose access to NC State facilities and services and must pay a $150 reinstatement fee.

Communication with Campus Health

  • Check the HealthyPack Portal for messaging from the health records team. If you have questions, you will get the fastest response (within 48 hours) by messaging the immunizations coordinator through the portal.
  • Check your NC State email regularly as alerts from the HealthyPack Portal/Campus Health and Registration and Records are all sent to this email.
  • Provide a phone number (even if it is an international number) so you can be contacted, if needed.
  • If you are calling Campus Health, leave your name and a good contact phone number in their voicemail if no one is able to speak to you at that time.
  • If you want to speak with someone in person, you can call Campus Health to schedule and consultation with a nurse to discuss your immunization records. There’s no charge for a consult visit.
  • The student’s name and birthdate are missing on some pages of the uploaded documents.
  • Vaccine names and abbreviations might be different based on the languages:
    • Ex. the DTP/DTaP/TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) vaccine in the US is the Diphtérie / Tétanos / Coqueluche (DTCaP or dTcaP) in France. Pertussis = Coqueluche and NOT Poliomyélite.
  • The accelerated Hepatitis B series is typically not accepted in the U.S. except for the TwinRix vaccine (HepA/HepB).
    • Students could receive the first 2 doses at home (at least a month apart).
    • Ex. If the second dose is given by June/July and the student is returning home over Winter Break, it is possible to receive the 3rd dose during the Winter Break (at home). The 3rd dose MUST be at least 2 months after the 2nd dose and at least 4 months after the 1st dose.
    • Heplisav-B vaccine is a newer vaccine available in the US.  The 2 doses are at least one month apart.  In order to only receive 2 doses, both MUST be Heplisav-B; otherwise 3 doses will be required.
  • For the MMR vaccine: Two (2) doses required on or AFTER first birthday/ 1 year of age. Doses that are administered before the student turned 1 year of age will not count.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Screening is REQUIRED for ALL students
    • Tuberculosis testing is only required for students from high-risk countries. Review the list of countries prior to selecting “yes” on the TB Screening Form. (Ex. France is NOT on the high-risk list.)
    • BCG is not “treatment” for TB; treatment for TB is medication to treat disease, not preventative.
    • Campus Health does not accept PPD/Mantoux/skin tests from outside of the US.
    • Note: the TB screening section doesn’t automatically turn green/get marked as compliant because this section is manually reviewed by staff for all students, regardless of whether or not they are from a high-risk country.
    • NEW Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY)
      • Required for everyone born on or after 01/01/2003.
      • Common names of Meningococcal ACWY vaccines: Menactra, Menveo, Menomune, MenQuadFi, Penbraya (ACWY + B), Nimenrix (France), Menpovax (Europe)
      • Meningococcal C only vaccines do not count. Neisvac does NOT fulfill this requirement.

Welcome to the Wolfpack

The GTI helps SKEMA students transition to life in the United States and provide opportunities to get engaged at NC State. SKEMA students participate in two days of orientation at the beginning of their first semester in the U.S. The GTI provides a virtual pre-departure orientation as well as an engaging semester-long course for new students to the Raleigh campus (U.S. Business and Culture).

Healthcare can be very expensive in the United States. Use Campus Health if your medical situation is not an emergency.

  • SKEMA students often will need to pay for the costs and seek reimbursement from their insurance company.
  • A price list of common treatments and services at Campus Health is on their website.
  • Check MyPack Portal often for possible unpaid bills from Campus Health.
  • Most over-the-counter medication used to treat cold symptoms can be purchased at drug stores, grocery stores, and retail stores (CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc.). If you need prescription medication, you will need to see a healthcare provider.

Public transportation in Raleigh and the Triangle area is constantly improving but it is not as extensive or as efficient as public transportation in larger American cities like New York City or Washington, DC. Most students rely on driving their own cars or rideshare services when traveling away from campus.

  • Students can request a GoPass at no cost using an active NC State email address.
  • Wolfline buses are free and will take you around the NC State campus.
    • The Red Terror bus goes from campus to NC State home games at Carter Finley stadium (football) or the PNC Arena (basketball).
    • Wolfline buses do not operate on university holidays.
  •  Track Wolfline buses in real-time online or on your smartphone with the Passio Go app.
  • GoRaleigh buses are free with a GoPass, or $1.25 a ride, and will take you around Raleigh.
  • GoTriangle buses are free with a GoPass, or $2.50 a ride, and will take you around the Triangle region (the airport, Durham or Chapel Hill).
  • If you plan to use public transportation, be sure to check schedules and maps and plan for a lot of travel time.
  • Visit the NC State Transportation website for more information about how to rent bicycles or participate in car share or rideshare services.
  • We have 700+ student organizations, Student Government and the Union Activities Board working together to enhance the Wolfpack experience.
  • NC State is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and participates in Division I, the highest level of college sports. Tickets to many athletic events are free if you show your student ID at the door. There is a lottery for tickets to football and men’s basketball games.
  • Students have access to many resources through Wellness and Recreation, including club and intramural sports, fitness classes, and outdoor adventures.
  • Check out university housing (on-campus dorm rooms and apartments).
  • Discover the libraries on the NC State campus and everything they offer.
