There were tears and cheers from the students as the GTI’s 2016 Global Leadership Institute at NC State wrapped up this week. This year’s GLI featured a diverse mix of 22 participants from NC State, Zhejiang University (China), and SKEMA Business School (France). The students came from various backgrounds and countries including Canada, China, Egypt, India, Syria, and the United States.
The students kicked off the program with team-building both inside and outside the classroom, as well as tackling the NC State ropes challenge course in Schenck Forest. The GTI also partnered with NC State’s Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service (CSLEPS), Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED), and the Shelton Leadership Center to conduct workshops on leadership. The program also included site visits to the Sonoco Recycling Facility and the Goodwill Community Foundation Farm. Le Tang, the Vice President and Head of US Corporate Research Center for ABB, also spoke to the students about lessons he’s learned regarding leadership in multicultural settings. The students were tasked with working in teams to creating a video that outlines their experiences during the 2-week program. Here’s the winning student video:
