The Global Training Initiative partnered with NC State University’s Shelton Leadership Center and Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service to run a summer leadership academy for select students from NC State and Zhejiang University that took place in Raleigh and Boston.
The 10-day leadership development program included 20 participants studying various disciplines, 13 students from Zhejiang University and 7 from NC State. The program aimed to help students develop a better understanding of themselves and those from other cultures as well as help students improve leadership skills, such as communication, team building, and innovative thinking.
The week kicked off with a high ropes course challenge that was the highlight for many of the students. The program also included site visits to the Lenovo US headquarters in the Research Triangle Park and Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
Students had the opportunity to apply what they learned during their leadership workshops and seminars by working in cross-cultural teams to create a final video that summarized their experience.
